Some cars in our parking lot got a "tune-up" today and not from your typical mechanic. Barbara Terry is becoming a sought-after female mechanic across the country. She hit the brakes and stopped in Allentown today. WFMZ's Eve Tannery shows us some of her tips to keep your car running smoothly, especially in the high heat.

NAT: engine
TANNERY:
Ahhhhhhhh, the sound of a revving engine.
And when you look under the hood at who's giving it a tune up...you see the nails, the long hair...and yes, a true *female* grease monkey, Barbara Terry.
BARBARA: :38
I grew up on a Texas ranch in a small town. I had 6 big brothers..they were always underneath the hood of cars, racing cars...doing everything that had to do with horsepower.
TANNERY:
So, Barbara became intrigued. And, little did she know, her passion for cars would soon become her livelihood.
NATS: tire thing 7:35
TANNERY:
Right now, Barbara's "pumping up" the county with some of her best tips working as "Dr. Fuelgood" for Shell Gasoline.
NATS: hood opening.
TANNERY: (STANDUP)
Her stop in Allentown this week has obviously been a hot one.
And Barbara says cars, like their drivers, need to be replenished with fluids in order to survive the summer heat.
BARBARA: 4:21
Pop your hood an check your oil, your transmission fluid your windshield washer fluid, radiator coolant fluid.
TANNERY:
Summer is also the season for major car battery problems.
Experts say heat, not cold, shortens battery life.
So, one way to keep your battery running smoothly is to get rid of corrosion.
NATS: spray 8:02
TANNERY:
You can use something like a spray and then wash it off....but, Barbara has another secret.
BARBARA: 5:55
My ..one of favorites my brothers showed me this when I was teeny weeny is literally coca-cola. // 6:07 You just pour it on..same process let it sit for 30 seconds and wash it off.
TANNERY:
Though she has a lot of fun, Barbara says her work under the hood has a purpose.
BARBARA: 1:33
If somebody can take away some mechanical knowledge after a segment and use it in their daily life, I think that's just a great benefit.
TANNERY:
You go girl! In Allentown,
